This months Let’s Bake meet up was in a new venue (to us) and it was a really fun change. We met up on a Sunday afternoon in Bar One for a Cocktail Party themed afternoon.
We were warmly welcomed by the staff and some of our members even managed a cocktail or mocktail! All of the bakes were delicious as usual, most of them laced with booze in small (or not so small) amounts! There were also a couple of savoury options to help balance the sweetness.
Thanks to all who came and we look forward to seeing you again soon. Read more
Happy New Year bakers! I know January is always dominated by healthy eating and cutting back but a wee treat at the end of the month certainly won’t hurt.
This month we have a bit of a change of venue, so to honour our Sunday afternoon at Bar One, the theme will be a Cocktail Party! We’ve kept it a bit vague to allow you all the most flexibility with the theme so anything from cocktail flavoured cupcakes, to savoury cocktail sized snacks are allowed!
Look forward to seeing old and new faces there.
Date: Sunday 31st January 2016
Venue: Bar One, 1 Academy Street, Inverness
Theme: Cocktail Party
To sign up: Email email@example.com to book a place (a comment on this post doesn’t guarantee you a spot, we like to keep all the sign ups in one place for the sake of accuracy!) and we’ll remind you nearer the time to let us know what you are bringing so appropriate labels can be made. If you are bringing something that needs slicing at the bar, please bring your bake pre-sliced or bring your own knife/cake slice. As usual we’ll provide reusable plates. Bar One will have hot and cold drinks (and cocktails!) available for purchase.
Hi Let’s-Bakers! Kirsty here with details of our next meeting. We’re heading back to Velocity on Stephens Brae at the end of the month for and Autumnal Flavours themed bake club. Think pumpkin pies, apples and pears or warm cinnamon spices – anything which you think sums up the season in one bake. The BBC Food website has a great collection here.
As always sweet and savoury are both welcome and it’s all in good fun, there is no competition here. Just lots of tea and home baking!

So this post is LONG overdue but hopefully it will remind you all of what fun you had at the last meeting just a couple of weeks before you hear about our next meeting!
As always we had a great time with all of the ladies, and it was great to see some new faces. There were lots of laughs this time with stories about holiday makers in the area, I’ve been sharing one story in particular with everyone!
Thanks for coming everyone and to those thinking about coming along, I hope these photos inspire you to get in touch!
Summer is coming Let’s Bakers and to honour the coming season our next Let’s Bake meeting will be all things summer fruits! If the weather lets us down in typical British summer time fashion, at least we will have delicious and fruity baked goods to see us through.
We are looking for any kind of bake that includes British summer fruits, bonus points if you are able to pick your own fruit locally but if not it’s certainly not mandatory! If you’ve grown them yourself you will get a gold star…well, not really but we will be very impressed!
Looking forward to seeing you next month!

This past Thursday we held our inaugural Let’s Bake meeting and I’m delighted to report it was a great success. A full table, a friendly buzz and, most importantly, lots of tasty baking to munch on.
The venue was Velocity Cafe & Bicycle Workshop on Stephens Brae and they were ever so accomodating of my constant requests for more knives, more forks, more spoons! So a big thank you goes to them for being welcoming hosts.
We were delighted with the turnout for our first meeting, eleven ladies in total, and don’t we look a lovely bunch?? Read more
Happy Monday, I hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend. If however, that back to work funk has hit you, then let me cheer you up with news of our very first Let’s Bake meeting!
When: Thursday 25th September at 7pm – 9pm
Where: Velocity, at the top of Stephens Brae
Theme: Local Produce
There will be twelve spaces for this first meeting. If you are interested in attending please e-mail me and Susan to confirm your spot and to let us know what you will be bringing, just to avoid any duplicate items. Please let us know a week before the meeting, so by the 18th September. Our address is letsbakeinverness [at] gmail [dot] com.
We have chosen to keep the theme very open for the first meeting, break us all in gently! So, by local produce we mean that at least one of your ingredients should be sourced from the Inverness area. You bake can really be anything. Let your imagination run wild! Sweet or savoury, biscuits or scones, bread of cupcakes. Truly bake whatever you want as long as it contains some lovely local ingredients. Also, this is not a competition. We don’t mind if you’re a professional or a complete novice, as long as you love to bake and eat! If I could give you any tips though, I’d say that savoury items are usually the least common but most enjoyed. From previous experience of baking club meetings we have usually eaten so much sugar that the savoury bakes are a delightful reprieve!
The main thing is that we all have fun so if you fancy it please get in touch to book your space!
If you love to bake and share your baking with others, as well as having a good chat with friends, then this is the place for you.
Let’s Bake – Inverness is a baking club which meets every couple of months in a venue somewhere in the Inverness area. The aim to meet lovely people, have a good chat and enjoy (un)healthy quantities of home baking. Now, don’t let the word club put you off, Let’s Bake is just an excuse to meet up with some friends for some good home baking and even better chat. There is nothing formal here, no membership, no fees – just cake…and bread and pastry and biscuits…
Each meeting will have a different theme which will be announced well in advance on our homepage, there will be between 10 and 15 places, depending upon the venue, and all that is required is that you bring along yourself, your bake and buy your beverages from the chosen venue. Well, there is a couple more things – please could you bring along a plate suitable for your bake and also, if your bake requires a knife and/or another serving implement we would be really grateful if you could bring that along too!
We are Susan Barrie (@susan_barrie) and Kirsty Montgomery (@eversokirsty) and we have a shared love of baking and all things cake. We were both part of baking clubs in Fife and Glasgow respectively and now that we are both in Inverness, it seemed like the perfect time to bring the phenomenon up north and start our own club.
