Let’s Bake 6: Back to School

swiss-roll-9-1024x770

The next Let’s Bake Inverness event will be held in August, so what better than a “Back to School” theme?

We’re thinking maybe you can bring along a well-remembered school dinner pudding in a baked form (there’s nothing quite like a jam roly-poly with custard), or perhaps even a favourite classic bake or biscuit that you had as a child! Savoury options are always welcome too!

Date: Tuesday 25th August 2015

Time: 7-9pm

Venue: Blend Tea & Coffee Merchants, 9 Drummond Street, Inverness

Theme: Back To School

To sign up: Email letsbakeinverness@gmail.com to book a place (a comment on this post doesn’t guarantee you a spot, we like to keep all the sign ups in one place for the sake of accuracy!) and we’ll remind you nearer the time to let us know what you are bringing so appropriate labels can be made. If you are bringing something that needs slicing at the cafe, please bring your bake pre-sliced or bring your own knife/cake slice. As usual we’ll provide reusable plates. Blend will have hot and cold drinks available for purchase.

LET’S BAKE 5: SUMMER FRUITS BAKES ROUND UP

So this post is LONG overdue but hopefully it will remind you all of what fun you had at the last meeting just a couple of weeks before you hear about our next meeting!

As always we had a great time with all of the ladies, and it was great to see some new faces.  There were lots of laughs this time with stories about holiday makers in the area, I’ve been sharing one story in particular with everyone!

Thanks for coming everyone and to those thinking about coming along, I hope these photos inspire you to get in touch!

Let’s Bake 5: Summer Fruits Bakes

rhubarb ginger scones 11

Summer is coming Let’s Bakers and to honour the coming season our next Let’s Bake meeting will be all things summer fruits!  If the weather lets us down in typical British summer time fashion, at least we will have delicious and fruity baked goods to see us through.

We are looking for any kind of bake that includes British summer fruits, bonus points if you are able to pick your own fruit locally but if not it’s certainly not mandatory!  If you’ve grown them yourself you will get a gold star…well, not really but we will be very impressed!

Looking forward to seeing you next month!

Date: Thursday 11th June

Time: 7-9pm

Venue: Velocity, St Stephen’s Brae, Inverness

Theme: Summer Fruits

To sign up: Email letsbakeinverness@gmail.com to book a place (a comment on this post doesn’t guarantee you a spot, we like to keep all the sign ups in one place for the sake of accuracy!) and we’ll remind you nearer the time to let us know what you are bringing so appropriate labels can be made. If you are bringing something that needs slicing at the cafe, please bring your own knife/cake slice.

As usual we’ll provide reusable plates. Velocity will have hot and cold drinks available for purchase.

Places Available for Let’s Bake Inverness – 3. “Free-from” Bakes

A Happy New Year to you all! We’re hoping Santa was good to you and brought you lots of good cakes and bakes over the holidays!

We’re pleased to announce that 12 places are now available for the next Let’s Bake Inverness event!

Here are the details:

Date: Thursday 12th February, 7-9pm

Venue: Velocity, St Stephen’s Brae, Inverness

Theme: Your sweet or savoury bake should be either dairy, gluten or wheat free (or if you’re feeling up to the challenge, a bake free of all three!)

With food allergies and intolerances on the rise, there’s been a increase in gluten, dairy and wheat free products, so it’s considerably easier to bake for someone who may have an intolerance. We’re sure that all you Let’s Bakers will be able to bring some delicious, flavourful bakes!

We look forward to seeing you and your bakes next month! (And just in case you’re wondering, the picture above is of a gluten-free chocolate torte Susan made to celebrate the festive season)

2: Christmassy Bakes – 04/12/14

For our second meeting we once again were kindly hosted by the wonderful folks at Velocity Cafe, who were on hand to supply us with hot and cold drinks as we sampled and chatted about our bakes! We were a slightly smaller group but this no way affected the quality or quantity of the bakes!

Kara made her own mincemeat in this delicious amandine tart:

Jane made the classic German cookie – Lebkuchen:

Dorothy made her classic Christmas shaped shortbread which were made with icing sugar, as well as the addition of cornflour!

DSC_0876

Ilona generously made two bakes which were both wheat-free, a mince pie flapjack and also some stollen!

DSC_0874

I (Susan) made a date and cinnamon bundt cake, topped with an icing glaze and cranberries, pistachios and almonds:

And finally, Mandy made these intricate and cleverly decorated iced gingerbread biscuits! They were almost too good to eat, but we managed!

If any of the bakers would like to add their recipe to our archive of recipes, do let us know! We’d love to share around these tried and tested recipes!

Our next meeting will be in February, and more details will be available in the new year, once everyone has recovered from Christmas!

1. Local Produce – Velocity Cafe 25.09.14

This past Thursday we held our inaugural Let’s Bake meeting and I’m delighted to report it was a great success.  A full table, a friendly buzz and, most importantly, lots of tasty baking to munch on.

The venue was Velocity Cafe & Bicycle Workshop on Stephens Brae and they were ever so accomodating of my constant requests for more knives, more forks, more spoons!  So a big thank you goes to them for being welcoming hosts.
